The Pakistan Peoples Party leadership has decided in principle not to accept the resignations of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MPAs who quit all Sindh Assembly seats in protest against what they called ‘political victimisation’, as par media reports.
Sources reported that PPP leadership, instead of accepting resignations of MQM MPAs immediately, would try to convince the party lawmakers to withdraw their resignations.
Sources said PPP-led Sindh government has decided to contact MQM at all forums to persuade them.
“MQM’s resignations will not benefit PPP, but re-election on these constituencies is likely to somehow affect ongoing operation in Karachi,” a source in PPP told the media
MQM, the fourth largest party in the National Assembly, quit all its seats in the house, in the Senate and in the Sindh Assembly on Wednesday, in protest at what they describe as a campaign of victimisation against them.
MQM eight senators, 24 MNAs and 51 Sindh MPAs submitted their resignations to speakers and Chairman Senate, in a major blow to the PML-N federal government, PPP-led provincial government and creating a serious political crisis in the country.
