On Monday, a Shenzhen-based firm launched the world’s first zero-carbon open-ear earbuds, aligning with China’s ambitious “dual carbon goals.” Named the Cleer ARC 3, this product was introduced by Shenzhen Grandson Electronic Co., Ltd. in Guangdong Province’s tech capital, Shenzhen, coinciding with global Earth Day celebrations.
The Cleer ARC 3 boasts advanced AI capabilities and an open-ear design, ensuring users can hear ambient sounds. Wu Haiquan, the company’s president, noted that the ARC 3 achieved carbon neutrality through extensive use of recyclable materials and energy-efficient processes.
This initiative places Grandsun at the forefront of the carbon-neutral trend in consumer electronics—a sector that, until recently, lagged behind industries like food and beverage regarding sustainable production practices. Apple, a notable pioneer, aims to achieve carbon neutrality across all its products by 2030.
Industry experts acknowledge the rarity of achieving carbon neutrality in electronics, given their complex production and extensive supply chains. However, Wu hoped that Grandsun’s move would inspire similar commitments throughout the industry and encourage a shift toward low-carbon consumer habits.
China’s “dual carbon” strategy aims to peak emissions by 2030 and reach carbon neutrality by 2060, promoting green technology in manufacturing and leading in new energy vehicle (NEV) markets.
Mickael Lefebvre, Grandsun’s Chief Technology Officer, remarked on China’s emerging low-carbon product ecosystem, which supports the development of innovations like the ARC 3. He suggested that consumers, already accustomed to eco-friendly options like electric vehicles, will likely embrace similar advancements in other electronic products.
