Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon has publicly criticized the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) for allegedly trying to incite unrest in Karachi by misrepresenting recent incidents.
In a rebuttal to MQM-Pakistan leader Dr. Farooq Sattar’s recent press conference, Memon stated on Sunday that “Farooq Sattar and other MQM leaders must realize that making baseless accusations does not enhance their credibility. For decades, the people of Karachi have suffered under the coercive and violent politics of MQM.”
Memon accused MQM of attempting to provoke unrest through intimidation due to their inability to maintain control. He remarked, “MQM has historically exploited tragedies for political gain. Farooq Sattar’s statements are grounded in lies, hypocrisy, and baseless allegations.”

The minister criticized Sattar for targeting the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Sindh government, urging him to consider MQM’s historical actions. “Those who blame the Sindh government are responsible for disrupting the city’s peace and progress. Ethnic riots, extortion, and targeted killings were hallmarks of MQM’s approach,” he added.
Memon defended the recent arrest of MQM-Haqiqi leader Afaq Ahmed, asserting it was conducted lawfully. “No one is above the law. MQM should refrain from shedding crocodile tears. While the Sindh government is committed to resolving public issues, MQM continues to sow chaos,” he stated.
Furthermore, Memon accused MQM of perpetuating ethnic tensions in Karachi. “For years, MQM has been the primary source of discord between Pashtuns and Urdu-speaking communities. The public is well aware of the real instigators,” he asserted.
This statement from Minister Memon highlights ongoing tensions between the Sindh government and MQM, underscoring the complex political dynamics in Karachi.
