London: Serena Williams Wimbledon comeback begins Tuesday against Australian Maya Joint on Centre Court, nearly four years after the 23-time Grand Slam champion last played a competitive singles match.
Williams, 44, received a Wimbledon wildcard and drew 20-year-old Jotun in the first round. The match was listed as the third contest of the day on Centre Court.
Williams last played a competitive singles match at the 2022 U.S. Open, after saying she was “evolving away” from tennis. Joint was world No. 53 when the Wimbledon draw was made.
Williams is also scheduled to play doubles at the championships with her older sister, Venus Williams.
