Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, a senior leader of the Awami National Party (ANP), has decided to retire from politics.
Media reports indicate that Bilour, disheartened by repeated electoral losses and shifts in party leadership, has chosen to withdraw from the political arena. He cited his inability to meet the expectations of certain influential groups as a reason for his defeats in four consecutive elections. Furthermore, the personal losses of his brother, Bashir Bilour, and his nephew, Haroon Bilour, both of whom were martyred, have also influenced his decision.
Bilour plans to relocate to Islamabad, explaining that remaining in Peshawar has little purpose without his participation in elections.
In related developments within the ANP, Senator Zahid Khan recently resigned from his role as the party’s spokesperson amid alleged disputes with the party’s leadership. Khan also opted out of the intra-party elections and submitted no candidacy for leadership positions.
The party has undergone significant changes in its leadership structure. During the intra-party elections, members elected Aimal Wali Khan, son of Asfandyar Wali Khan, as the ANP’s central president.
