Samsung’s new operating system, One UI 7, unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event, seeks to enhance user experience with innovative AI-powered features.

A notable addition is the integration of live navigation from Google Maps into the Now Bar, which offers quick insights and information directly on the lock screen.

Samsung introduced Now Bar and Now Brief as part of its Galaxy AI suite, aiming to deliver personalized and actionable insights to users. The Now Bar, a rectangular interface near the bottom of the lock screen, displays various information through scrollable cards. Meanwhile, Now Brief offers an AI-powered overview of users’ daily activities and usage, leveraging data from connected devices like the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring.

One UI 7 Google Maps Integration

According to tipster Mukul Sharma, who shared details on X (formerly Twitter), Samsung has integrated Google Maps’ live navigation feature into the Now Bar. This integration, spotted in One UI 7 with Google Maps v25.04.01.717254420, allows users to start a trip on Google Maps and view live navigation directly on the lock screen.

Video indicates that the feature enables Live Activities, allowing real-time updates while navigating. Notably, this capability is commonly linked to Android 16; however, Samsung seems to have integrated it into One UI 7, which is built on Android 15. This hints at a partnership between Samsung and Google to deliver advanced features to users sooner than expected.

How It Works

The Now Bar’s integration with Google Maps provides a seamless experience for users. Once a trip is initiated on Google Maps, live navigation details appear on the lock screen, allowing users to stay informed without unlocking their devices. Additionally, Google Maps sends live notifications about ongoing navigation, enhancing convenience.

Now Brief complements the Now Bar by offering a comprehensive view of the user’s day. Insights include:

  • Weather forecasts
  • Energy scores
  • Music and navigation recommendations
  • Device usage patterns

This ecosystem-driven feature ensures users access relevant information at a glance, making daily routines more efficient.
