After Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja has retired from Twenty20 internationals. His announcement followed India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory over South Africa.
Jadeja shared his decision on Instagram, expressing gratitude and satisfaction with his T20 career. “With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to T20 internationals,” he wrote. He emphasized his commitment to performing for his country in other cricket formats.
Although Ravindra Jadeja played a limited role in the World Cup, participating minimally in the USA and Caribbean games, he leaves the T20 international scene with 74 caps, having scored 515 runs and taken 54 wickets.
Jadeja, aged 35, remains active in Tests and ODIs, where his performance continues to earn him accolades as one of the world’s top all-round fielders. He has appeared in 72 Tests and 197 ODIs, scoring over 3000 and 2700 runs, respectively, and taking nearly 300 and over 220 wickets in each format.
Earlier, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma also retired from T20 internationals. The final in Barbados marked India’s second T20 World Cup win, the first being in 2007 under MS Dhoni. In the 2024 final, Kohli scored a crucial 76, helping India set a strong target. Indian bowlers, particularly Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah, clinched the victory by restricting South Africa to 169 for eight.
