Ramón Jesurún, the President of the Colombian Football Federation, and his son, Ramón Jamil Jesurún, face serious legal troubles after being arrested for an altercation with security guards at the Hard Rock Stadium following the 2024 Copa America Final.
The Jesurúns were taken into custody at the venue by Miami-Dade Police and subsequently transferred to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center around 4 AM. Detention records reveal they are charged with three felony counts of battery stemming from the confrontation, which occurred shortly after midnight in a tunnel reserved for the press.
The altercation began when the Jesurúns attempted to access the field but were denied entry. A security guard, attempting to redirect Ramón Jamil by touching his back, reportedly triggered an aggressive response from both father and son, leading to the fracas.
Legal and Safety Concerns
The incident has raised significant safety concerns. James Reyes, the chief of public safety for Miami-Dade County, emphasized the swift response of law enforcement to what he described as a dangerous situation. He assured the public that a comprehensive review of all safety and security protocols is underway, especially in preparation for the 2026 World Cup.
Bail has been set at $2,000 for Ramón Jesurún and $1,000 for his son. The case continues to draw attention, particularly on social media, where footage of the incident and subsequent chaos caused by fans with counterfeit tickets has circulated widely. The unauthorized entry exacerbated the stadium’s security challenges, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement and potentially revising event protocols.
