Punjab free textbooks will reach government schools before the new academic year under a new grade-wise distribution strategy, the Punjab Education Department said.
The Punjab government finalised the plan to ease textbook access for students and reduce pressure on parents. The Education Department introduced a hybrid formula that combines new textbooks with Book Banks.
Under the Book Bank system, schools will collect usable textbooks from outgoing students and redistribute them where needed. Officials said the formula aims to address earlier distribution problems and improve resource use across government schools.
Students in classes 1 to 3 will receive 100% new books under the plan. In classes 4 and 5, 80% of students will get new books, while 20% will receive usable textbooks from Book Banks.

For classes 6 to 9, the department will provide new books to 50% of students. Class 10 students will receive 100% new textbooks because the matric syllabus has changed.
The Education Department said it has already moved new books to district and tehsil warehouses across Punjab. Schools have received instructions to immediately collect old but usable books from former students to stock their Book Banks.
Officials said textbook distribution will be based on the latest enrollment figures. The department also issued transparency orders to ensure no student loses access to education due to missing books.
