Shanawaz Jadoon, an independent candidate endorsed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), emotionally disclosed he was unfairly defeated in Karachi’s PS-115 (Keamari) after declining to abandon PTI and its jailed founder, Imran Khan. In a widely circulated video statement, Jadoon alleged receiving threats of losing his seat for not defecting to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) or Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).
He revealed persistent pressures to disassociate from Imran Khan, emphasizing his unwavering loyalty despite threats. Jadoon highlighted his commitment to Khan and the supporters who rallied for his election, stating he would forgo any position rather than betray Khan.
Despite winning PS-115 with 20,609 votes against PPP’s Muhammad Asif Khan on February 8, a recount later favoured the PPP candidate. Jadoon also mentioned receiving calls from unidentified sources pressuring him to switch political allegiances, which he refused.
He noted discrepancies in the recount process and claimed victory with a significant lead before being informally notified of a recount by the returning officer’s office.
Ejaz Khan Swati, another PTI-supported independent victor from PS-88 in Malir, has defected to PPP, citing intentions to serve his community better. His decision, he claims, is driven solely by the desire to contribute to his constituency’s growth.
Following Swati’s announcement, PTI Karachi’s President, Khurram Sher Zaman, declared Swati’s suspension from PTI, criticizing his betrayal and cautioning the PPP against welcoming such individuals.
