On Sunday, the PML-N charged the PTI with slandering the nation’s fallen heroes, an assertion the PTI denied. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif expressed dismay over the PTI’s actions, highlighting potential legal repercussions and the negative impact on national sentiment. PTI’s Asad Qaiser countered, accusing the PML-N of misleading propaganda.
Following a militant attack in North Waziristan, resulting in seven troop fatalities, Tarar emphasized the unacceptability of maligning martyrs, affecting national sentiment. He mentioned ongoing efforts to identify and act against those behind the derogatory campaign, including social media scrutiny.
Tarar highlighted instances of disrespect towards martyrs, including events surrounding the Lasbela helicopter crash and the May 9 attacks on state institutions. He mentioned legal actions against domestically operated accounts involved in the campaign and criticized PTI’s negative attempts to influence the national economy, including actions against Pakistan’s IMF and EU relations.
In Sialkot, Asif reiterated the importance of martyrs and accused PTI of aligning with terrorist narratives, emphasizing the disgrace of politicizing soldiers’ sacrifices.
In response, PTI’s Qaiser and Barrister Saif defended their party, denying disrespect towards the military and accusing PML-N of exploiting the issue for political gain.
