Sony will raise PlayStation Plus subscription prices for new customers in select regions from May 20, increasing the one-month and three-month plans, the company said.
The one-month PlayStation Plus plan will start at $10.99, €9.99 or £7.99, while the three-month plan will start at $27.99, €27.99 or £21.99, according to PlayStation’s statement.
The increase mainly affects shorter PlayStation Plus Essential subscriptions, the base tier that gives PS4 and PS5 users access to online multiplayer, monthly games, cloud saves and PlayStation Store discounts.
Sony attributed the change to “ongoing market conditions,” according to Video Games Chronicle. The company has not confirmed whether PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium plans will face similar increases.
Current subscribers will keep their existing rates unless they change their subscription tier or allow their membership to lapse. Sony said users in Turkey and India are excluded from that protection and will see price changes regardless of current subscriber status, according to The Verge.
The price change follows earlier PS5 console price increases in some markets, which Sony also linked to pressure from the global economic environment.
The timing comes ahead of the expected launch window for Grand Theft Auto VI in 2026. Rockstar Games has confirmed the title for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, while online play on PlayStation consoles generally requires an active PlayStation Plus subscription.
