Applicants waiting for their passports will likely face further delays due to a new issue at the Passports and Immigration Office.
Citizens, already frustrated by a shortage of lamination paper and printing machines, are now experiencing delays due to an ink shortage. Passport issuance delays will worsen if senior officials do not address this issue promptly.
Additionally, plans to transition the Directorate of Passports and Immigration into an authority contribute to the ongoing problems.
The federal government has decided to procure more passport-printing machines. The Deputy General (DG) of Passports and Immigration has prepared a requisition and sent it to the Ministry of Interior. Authorities stated that six desktops and two e-passport machines will be procured, with the new machines capable of printing 1,000 passports per hour.
