Tehran, Iran: Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran on May 16, 2026, for a two-day visit. He met Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni to mediate stalled US-Iran negotiations and enhance bilateral cooperation.
The ministers discussed border security, trade, and transit measures. They agreed to improve coordination to ensure safer trade routes and to maintain 24/7 border operations during peak religious travel seasons.
Iran pledged boarding and lodging for 5,000 Pakistani pilgrims in Mashhad. The country will also provide special transport from the border to Iraq.
Naqvi assured Iran of Pakistan’s cooperation in releasing Iranian fishermen detained after entering Pakistani waters. Both sides set up direct hotlines to handle border issues quickly.
The visit follows Naqvi’s April trip with Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. Islamabad continues shuttle diplomacy after the US-Israeli strikes on Tehran on February 28, 2026, which triggered the Strait of Hormuz blockade.
