ISLAMABAD: The ordinance pledged by the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz following an agreement with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) about the formation of a judicial commission, is expected to be issued today as its summary forwarded by the Prime Minister House has been received at Presidency, the sources said on Friday.
Following an exhaustive overview by a team of legal experts, the Prisident Mamnoon Hussain may sign the ordinance anytime today.
Earlier, the federal government and the PTI agreed to form a judicial commission comprising three judges of Supreme Court of Pakistan. The commission will be authorized to conduct the impartial probe into the alleged vote fraud in May 2013 elections.
According to the agreement, the commission is mandated to ascertain the facts whether organized rigging took place or not in the previous general elections that led PML-N into power in center and Punjab.
The agreement signed by the two parties also clearly mentions that the Prime Minister will dissolve the National Assembly if rigging charges turned out to be true in the commission’s findings and an interim caretaker will be installed forthwith.
Speaking after signing the seven-page agreement document late Wednesday (April 02), Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said he expected the ordinance to be issued in next 24 to 48 hours, saying, “Following the issuance of an ordinance regarding the judicial commission, our responsibility will stand accomplished.”
However, the ordinance could not be issued within the time indicated by him.
The proposed ordinance will be issued in order to lend binding legal authority to the Judicial Commission. Ordinance will be promulgated across Pakistan with immediate effect from the date of its announcement, according to the agreement between the PTI and PML-N.
