Karachi, Sindh: The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) cleared Orangi Town encroachment on Wednesday, demolishing more than 100 illegal shops built on Red Crescent Society land.
The operation took place in Orangi Town No. 5, where officials said the land had been allocated for a hospital but remained under illegal occupation for nearly four decades.
According to officials, an encroachment network had used the site for commercial activity for around 40 years. Authorities said the SBCA cleared the market after repeated requests from the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Sindh Branch.

The PRCS Sindh Branch had approached Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, the Karachi commissioner and SBCA officials to seek action to recover the property.
Authorities also confiscated goods during the operation and issued warning notices to prevent fresh occupation of the recovered land.
Officials said the Red Crescent Society now plans to build a hospital on the recovered site to provide free medical facilities to the public.
