EAST RUTHERFORD, United States: Macklemore’s Palestine concert remarks drew attention after the American rapper voiced support for Palestinians while opening for Ed Sheeran at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
During the September 5 performance, Macklemore wore a keffiyeh and told the crowd that people in Gaza and the occupied West Bank had not been forgotten.
The rapper also performed “Hind’s Hall,” his 2024 protest song, while footage related to Gaza appeared on the stadium screens.
Macklemore expanded his comments beyond Palestine, calling for freedom in Cuba, Congo, Sudan and Iran. He also criticised US Immigration and Customs Enforcement during the performance.

The appearance prompted criticism from pro-Israel groups and some concertgoers. The Israeli-American Council objected to political messaging at the event.
Other critics said attendees had expected a music performance rather than political advocacy. Supporters, meanwhile, praised Macklemore for using a large concert platform to speak about Gaza and Palestine.

Social media users highlighted his continued public advocacy despite previous criticism of his political statements.
Macklemore has repeatedly addressed the Israel-Gaza conflict in his music and public appearances, including through “Hind’s Hall.”
