Authorities opened a Massive Attack flag probe after two members of the British band displayed a Palestinian flag during its July 29 concert in Singapore.

The Singapore Police Force said reports had been lodged and investigations were continuing. The Infocomm Media Development Authority is separately examining a possible breach of the concert’s licence conditions, according to Channel NewsAsia.

Videos posted online showed the musicians raising the flag at The Star Performing Arts Centre while audience members cheered. A concertgoer told CNA that the band also shouted “Free Palestine,” prompting part of the crowd to join the chant.

Singapore prohibits the public display of foreign national emblems without a permit or exemption. The Ministry of Home Affairs said a conviction can carry a fine of up to S$500, six months’ imprisonment, or both.

Authorities had not announced any charges or publicly identified the two performers involved as of Friday.

Massive Attack said it removed one song from the set because of “local laws” but did not provide further details. IMDA had not confirmed whether it required the change.

The Bristol trip-hop group now centres on Robert Del Naja and Grant Marshall. It has previously criticised Israel’s military campaign in Gaza and supported Palestinian causes.

Neither Massive Attack nor concert promoter Lushington Entertainments immediately responded to Reuters’ requests for comment.
