ISLAMABAD: Delegates for the OIC women’s conference began arriving in Islamabad on Saturday ahead of the two-day ministerial meeting on women’s empowerment, the Government of Pakistan said.
Pakistan will host the 9th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Ministerial Conference on Women from July 12 to 13 under the Ministry of Human Rights.
The conference theme is “Socio-Economic and Political Empowerment of Women in the OIC Countries: Challenges and Way Forward.”
Minister of State for Law and Justice Barrister Aqeel Malik, Parliamentary Secretary on Human Rights Saba Sadiq and Parliamentary Secretary on Law and Justice Farah Naz Akbar received delegations at Islamabad International Airport, according to official details.
The conference will bring together ministers responsible for women and family affairs, senior government officials, OIC institutions, international organisations and development partners.
Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar will chair the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women on behalf of Pakistan, the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan said.
Participants will discuss women’s access to economic opportunities, financial systems, entrepreneurship, technology and digital platforms. They will also review ways to narrow the digital gender gap and improve financial inclusion.
The meeting will also focus on women’s participation in decision-making, access to quality education and healthcare, and progress on commitments adopted at previous OIC ministerial conferences.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reviewed final preparations for the conference on Friday, Business Recorder reported.
The conference follows the eighth OIC ministerial session on women, held in Cairo in 2021, which focused on women’s empowerment, protection frameworks and socio-economic participation.
