Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority issued an NDMA weather alert warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, urban flooding and glacier-related flood risks across Pakistan over the next 12 to 24 hours.
The NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Centre said the forecast matched the seasonal outlook issued three to four months ago. The authority said it had shared advance warnings and risk assessments with federal, provincial and district authorities.
The alert forecast rain, thunderstorms, windstorms and dust storms across most parts of the country. Officials directed authorities to prepare for possible emergencies.
In Punjab and Islamabad, the NDMA forecast rain in Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur and other districts.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the authority warned of rain and thunderstorms in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan.
Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir may see thunderstorms and rain in Gilgit, Skardu, Diamer, Astore, Hunza, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Kotli, Mirpur and nearby areas.
The NDMA also issued a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood alert for Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir. It warned that sudden flooding, landslides and debris flows could affect vulnerable mountain areas.

Parts of Balochistan, including Turbat, Kech, Awaran, Khuzdar and Zhob, may receive rain and thunderstorms. In Sindh, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Ghotki and Karachi may face isolated rain, strong winds and dust storms.
The authority advised tourists and travellers to avoid unnecessary travel during intense rainfall. It also urged citizens to use the NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application and contact rescue services in emergencies.
