The Standing Committee of the National Assembly for Law and Justice opposed on Monday a proposal to withdraw an exemption allowing the drinking ofalcoholic beverages by non-Muslims in Pakistan.
Maulana Mohammad Shirani, a member of the committee, proposed that a ban should be placed on drinking by non-Muslims and as such an exemption provided in the law should be withdrawn.
However, majority of the committee members opposed the proposal.
