Lahore, Punjab: An anti-terrorism court issued a May 9 case verdict on Saturday, acquitting Shah Mahmood Qureshi and sentencing 20 PTI leaders and activists to 10 years each.
Anti-Terrorism Court Admin Judge Manzar Ali Gill announced the verdict inside Kot Lakhpat Jail. The case involved the torching of police vehicles in Lahore’s Mughalpura area during the May 9 violence.
The court convicted 20 of the 22 accused. Two accused had already been declared proclaimed offenders.
The convicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders included Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ijaz Chaudhry, Mian Mehmoodur Rashid and Umar Sarfraz Cheema.
PTI activists Shah Deen, Khawar Hussain, Ahmad Zahid and Hafiz Syedur Rahman also received 10-year prison terms.

The prosecution presented 37 witnesses during the trial. Former foreign minister and PTI vice-chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi was acquitted in this case.
The convicted leaders had faced charges linked to plotting the May 9 violence.
