ISSYK-KUL, Kyrgyzstan: Jonas Andersson and Shaun Torrente won the two Kyrgyzstan F1H2O sprint races on August 1 at Lake Issyk-Kul, where Andersson also secured pole for Sunday’s Grand Prix.
Team Abu Dhabi’s Andersson led the 17-lap opening sprint throughout. He finished 5.967 seconds ahead of teammate Erik Stark, while Sami Selio placed third, according to the official F1H2O results.
Victory Team’s Torrente also led from start to finish in the second sprint. He beat teammate Alec Weckstrom by 3.139 seconds, with Stefan Arand taking third after officials penalised Rashed Al Qemzi. Both winners collected 10 championship points.
Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov formally opened the competition alongside the presidents of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The event marked the UIM F1H2O World Championship’s first Grand Prix in Central Asia.

Eighteen drivers from 13 countries competed on the 1,929-metre, seven-buoy circuit. At 1,607 metres above sea level, the Lake Issyk-Kul course became the championship’s highest-altitude venue. The inaugural Grand Prix of Kyrgyzstan will conclude with the main race on August 2.
