On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Maulana Masood Azhar, founder of the UN-designated terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), issued a statement claiming India’s missile attack on Jamia Mosque Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur on May 6 killed 14 people, including his sister, her husband, a nephew, his wife, a niece, five family children, and four associates, including one’s mother, as reported by BBC Urdu.
Azhar condemned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating, “This brutality has broken all bounds expect no mercy now,”. India has not officially responded to the claims, which remain unverified by independent sources.

The alleged strike aligns with India’s “Operation Sindoor,” targeting nine JeM and Lashkar-e-Taiba sites, including Bahawalpur’s Subhan Allah complex, a known JeM hub, per Business Standard. Pakistan reported eight civilian deaths, including at the mosque, per CBS News.

The Bahawalpur attack follows India’s May 6 missile strikes, retaliating for the April 22 Pahalgam attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, which killed 26 and was baselessly blamed on Pakistan, per Reuters.
Pakistan’s military shot down five Indian jets and destroyed a brigade headquarters, escalating a crisis with nuclear risks. Azhar’s statement, amid this volatile backdrop, heightens fears of further violence, with US and UN officials urging de-escalation.
