Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has refuted media reports claiming she has throat cancer, clarifying that her health concerns are linked to the parathyroid gland.
Speaking at a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) event in London, alongside her father and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam addressed the gathering organized by PML-N UK President Ahsan Dar. She confirmed her recent medical visits to Geneva, reassuring supporters that she does not have throat cancer. “I have been suffering from parathyroid issues, which can only be treated in Switzerland or the U.S. I was in Geneva for my check-ups,” she explained. She emphasized, “I do not have throat cancer as reported.”
Maryam noted her eight-month workload: “I didn’t want to appear as a victim, but I felt compelled to clarify. I will return to Pakistan in two days.”

Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif addressed PML-N workers, expressing confidence in Pakistan’s future. He attributed the nation’s progress to the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam. He praised the dedication of party workers while lamenting missed opportunities, including Pakistan’s potential entry into the G20, which he linked to political disruptions. Reflecting on his 2017 disqualification in the Panama Papers case, he criticized retired judges, subtly pointing to Saqib Nisar and Justice Ijazul Ahsan, accusing them of hindering Pakistan’s economic growth.
Nawaz highlighted PML-N’s track record, stating the party consistently led Pakistan toward prosperity whenever in power. “Shehbaz Sharif works tirelessly to steer the country towards growth and stability,” he added.
Maryam echoed this sentiment, noting the rising stock market and increasing foreign reserves. “The world is looking at Pakistan as an investment hub. Each new day brings hope for prosperity,” she said. Acknowledging the hurdles, she remarked, “We don’t have a magic wand to fix everything instantly.”
