Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) representative Malik Ahmed Khan, currently in London, disagreed with the Supreme Court’s decision to change the National Accountability Ordinance. He perceives this legislation as detrimental to Pakistan’s progress.
While staying at The Churchill Hotel in London, Ahmed clarified that he hasn’t met with interim Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar, who’s also staying at the same location. He stated, “Any interaction with Kakar might raise doubts about his neutrality. Hence, I won’t be meeting him.” During his stay, Ahmed has had extensive discussions with top-tier PML-N members, including Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif. The recent Supreme Court ruling on the NAB law amendments was a key point of their talks.
Concerns Surrounding the NAB Decision
Ahmed emphasized the law’s broader implications, “This isn’t just about political parties; it’s adversely affecting Pakistan. The current climate under this law has created a hesitant atmosphere, where civil servants avoid paperwork, and businessmen hesitate to invest.” He recalled his earlier stance in 2017, urging Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Shehbaz Sharif to revisit this law in parliament.
Furthermore, addressing speculations about Shehbaz Sharif’s abrupt return, Ahmed hinted it was to evaluate the potential consequences of the Supreme Court’s decision. He also agreed with PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari’s critique, labelling the NAB law as harmful to the nation.
