Musician Machine Gun Kelly said his 2024 blackout tattoo caused a health scare, turning his skin yellow and limiting movement in parts of his upper body.
The 36-year-old artist, born Colson Baker, discussed the tattoo in a Billboard Canada interview published June 8.
MGK said tattoo artist ROXX had advised him to complete the blackout process over two years. He said he preferred the work to be done in about two months.
“After the first week, we hit my lymph nodes around my armpits and shoulders, and I got really sick,” he told Billboard Canada.
MGK debuted the tattoo in a 2024 Instagram post with the caption “for spiritual purposes only.”

The blackout tattoo covered much of his upper body and covered many older tattoos. He said the change marked a turning point and had to be physical, not only musical.
MGK also referred to the tattoo in his track “Don’t Let Me Go.” He said the experience left him inspired after the pain and recovery.
