Lower South Wazristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Unidentified attackers blew up a government girls’ primary school in Sara Ghowara area of Birmal tehsil late Tuesday night, police said.
District Police Officer Muhammad Tahir Shah told Dawn that explosive material destroyed the Lower South Waziristan school building. He said police had registered an initial report in the daily log.
The DPO said police launched an investigation after the blast. No individual or group had claimed responsibility for the attack. Local police and residents said attacks on educational institutions have increased in Lower South Waziristan in recent months.
Unidentified attackers had earlier targeted two schools in Birmal tehsil in February and March. Residents and community leaders said the attacks reflected hostility toward education. They said the violence also threatened children’s future in remote areas.
The concern is sharper for girls, who already face barriers to schooling in parts of the tribal districts. Local residents said school attacks deepen those challenges. The Lower South Waziristan school attack follows similar incidents in other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
