The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that Karachi’s minimum temperature will range between 13°C and 15°C over the next 24 hours.
Karachi’s temperature recorded a low of 16.5°C in the past 24 hours, with humidity at 76% and gentle northeast winds at 6km/h, adding a slight chill to the air. This dip in temperature aligns with earlier forecasts predicting the arrival of cooler weather. While daytime conditions are expected to remain mostly dry, the nights have progressively become colder over the past few days.
Despite the pleasant drop in temperature, Karachi continues to face smoggy conditions. For weeks, air pollution levels have fluctuated around “very unhealthy” on the Air Quality Index (AQI), according to IQAir. Contributing factors include emissions from vehicles and industrial units, compounded by seasonal crop burn-off.
Karachi, a densely populated economic hub, remains affected by winter pollution each year. Low-grade fuel emissions from factories and vehicles, slow winds, and cooler temperatures exacerbate the smog. However, no significant steps have been taken to mitigate the city’s air pollution levels.
As Karachi residents enjoy cooler nights, addressing the city’s persistent air quality challenges remains crucial.
