Karachi, Sindh: Police suspect a Karachi couple of honour killing after 20-year-old Nadia and 25-year-old Najeebullah were shot dead in Malir on Monday.
Police said unidentified gunmen opened fire on the couple’s rented vehicle after they left a Malir court. The couple had appeared before the court and submitted their nikah certificate, after which an earlier case was disposed of.
Officials said Nadia had married Najeebullah of her own choice. Her father, Aslam, had filed an abduction case at Sachal police station on May 19, and police later arrested Najeebullah’s father in connection with that case.
After the court proceedings, Najeebullah’s father was released. Police said the couple left the court and were heading towards a Nadra office in Saudabad when their vehicle came under heavy gunfire.
Two other people, including the driver, were also in the vehicle and managed to escape, officials said. Police added that the assailants had tracked the couple after they left court and fired at the rear seats of the car.
