Israel-Lebanon ceasefire terms were agreed under US guidance on Wednesday, with implementation tied to Hezbollah ending fire and leaving the South Litani Sector, the Trump administration said.

A joint statement released after talks in Washington said Israel and Lebanon agreed to create pilot zones where the Lebanese Armed Forces would take exclusive control and exclude non-state actors. The two sides also agreed to hold direct political and security talks during the week of June 22.

The agreement came after an earlier ceasefire failed to stop hostilities. Israel had invaded Lebanon in March in pursuit of Hezbollah, which had fired across the border in support of Tehran.

‘The ceasefire is contingent on a complete cessation of Hizbollah fire and the evacuation of all Hizbollah operatives from the south Litani sector,’ Israel and Lebanon said in a joint statement published by the US state department. https://t.co/CdUhZaRksf pic.twitter.com/CztuEtZTze

The diplomacy faced fresh pressure after Kuwait said an Iranian drone and missile attack damaged Kuwait International Airport, killing one person and injuring more than 60 others. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards denied targeting the airport and blamed failed US interceptor missiles, while the US military said Iranian drones deliberately targeted the airport.

US Central Command said it carried out new defensive strikes in southern Iran, including on missile launch sites and Iranian boats accused of trying to lay mines near the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway has remained largely closed during the wider conflict, disrupting energy shipments.

President Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran could show progress “over the weekend,” but Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told Al Mayadeen that talks had not been cut off and had made no progress.
