CHICAGO: The Indiana Fever beat the Chicago Sky 90-86 on Saturday in a game that saw DiJonai Carrington ejected for a flagrant 2 foul on Sophie Cunningham at the United Centre.
Carrington struck Cunningham across the face and neck during a first-quarter layup attempt. Cunningham fell before confronting Carrington, prompting players and team personnel to separate them.
Officials reviewed the play and assessed the flagrant 2 with 1:59 remaining in the quarter. The ruling carried an automatic ejection, according to the official game record.
Carrington left after scoring eight points in three minutes. Cunningham continued playing and finished with three points and two steals.
Shortly after the ejection, Carrington posted “WHITE PRIVILEGE” on Threads and tagged the Fever. She later referenced the team’s next meeting in a separate social-media post.
Cunningham rejected Carrington’s interpretation after the game. She told reporters that race did not influence the ruling and noted that officials had previously ejected her for a similar foul.

Fever head coach Stephanie White supported the decision. However, she said she did not believe Carrington intended to strike Cunningham across the neck, ESPN reported.
Kelsey Mitchell led Indiana with 27 points and extended her WNBA-record streak to 16 consecutive 20-point games within one season. Caitlin Clark added 26 points and 11 assists.
The victory improved the Fever to 20-12, while Chicago fell to 12-20. The teams will meet again at Wintrust Arena on August 23.
