Is a new Super Bowl trophy made every year? Here’s what you need to know about the Vince Lombardi Trophy, named for the iconic Green Bay Packers coach whose team triumphed in the first two Super Bowls.
The Vince Lombardi Trophy, awarded annually to the NFL champion, has become a symbol of excellence in sports. Crafted by Tiffany & Co., it features a regulation-size football in sterling silver mounted on a pyramid-shaped base. It stands 20.75 inches tall, weighs 107.3 ounces, and is valued at over $10,000.
Every victorious team is awarded a trophy to commemorate their championship season. Creating this trophy requires four months of careful craftsmanship and 72 hours of dedicated labour.
Additionally, players are awarded miniature replicas and a diamond-studded ring as personal keepsakes. These rings, often made by high-end jewellers like Tiffany & Co., Balfour, and Jostens, embody extravagance and skilled design. For instance, the Kansas City Chiefs’ 2020 Super Bowl rings included 255 diamonds and 36 genuine rubies, valued at nearly $36,000 each.
Each Super Bowl-winning team permanently keeps the official Lombardi Trophy. In contrast, the Stanley Cup is transferred to the champion each year, and a new Lombardi Trophy is created for each season.
