DOHA, Qatar: Iran-US talks made “positive progress” in Doha as Iranian parliament officials vowed retaliation over the killing of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, officials said Thursday.
Pakistani and Qatari mediators concluded separate meetings with U.S. and Iranian negotiators in Qatar’s capital.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry said the meetings focused on implementing issues linked to the memorandum of understanding. The statement said the talks would build on the Switzerland summit and continue after Khamenei’s funeral.
Iranian Parliament First Deputy Speaker Ali Nikzad said Khamenei’s killing would not go unanswered. Nikzad said revenge would one day be taken against the United States and its officials.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf urged the public to attend Khamenei’s funeral.
Ghalibaf said the ceremony should send what he called Iran’s demand for blood vengeance to the world.
Ghalibaf described the funeral as a renewal of allegiance to Khamenei’s path and the values of the Islamic Republic.
