Iran-Israel ceasefire hopes rose Monday after Tehran announced the suspension of its military operations following a new exchange of attacks with Israel.
Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central HQ announced the halt, according to the semiofficial Tasnim news agency. Israel had not responded to the announcement.
The Iranian military headquarters warned that any continued aggression, including in southern Lebanon, would bring “far more severe and crushing measures.”
Iran said its strikes had answered Israeli action linked to Lebanon. The statement said Tehran had acted in support of the Lebanese people.
President Donald Trump of the United States had urged both countries to “immediately stop shooting.” He also said they were looking at an immediate ceasefire.

Trump said the United States and Iran were “very close” to a deal to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He told “Meet the Press” that some points were still under negotiation.
The latest escalation began after Israeli strikes on Beirut. Iran then launched three waves of attacks on Israel before Israel hit Iran, with intense blasts reported in Tehran and other areas.
