Iran executions rose over the weekend as authorities hanged six men on charges linked to protest unrest and alleged cooperation with Israel’s Mossad intelligence service, state media and judiciary reports said.
The Iranian judiciary identified three of the men as Mehdi Rasouli, Mohammadreza Miri and Ebrahim Dolatabadi. State media described Rasouli and Miri as “Mossad elements” accused of involvement in what authorities called a January 2026 coup attempt.
State-affiliated reports said Rasouli and Miri had a direct role in the killing of a member of Iran’s security forces during the January events. Authorities accused Dolatabadi of leading groups involved in clashes in the Tabarsi area that caused further deaths.
The judiciary also reported the execution of Mehrab Abdollahzadeh at Urmia Central Prison on Sunday. Authorities arrested Abdollahzadeh, who was born in 1997 in Urmia, on October 22, 2022, during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests.

Iran hanged two other men, Yaghoub Karimpour and Nasser Bekrzadeh, at Urmia Central Prison on Saturday after the Supreme Court upheld their death sentences for spying for Israel and cooperating with Mossad, the judiciary’s media centre said.
Rights groups say Iran has executed at least 25 political prisoners since US-Israeli strikes began on February 28, 2026. Iranian authorities say national security cases proceed through established legal channels.
