Iran cancer hospital services expanded in Tehran after authorities opened a major new cancer treatment facility at the Imam Khomeini Hospital complex, according to Iranian media.
The new building of the Iran Cancer Institute spans 60,000 square meters across 18 floors. It was built with charitable support and cost about 12 trillion tomans.
The facility includes 562 hospital beds, 37 specialised departments and 280 oncology specialists. It also has 96 chemotherapy beds and chairs, 19 operating rooms and 11 imaging and radiotherapy machines.
Iranian media described the centre as the largest cancer treatment facility in the Middle East. The facility can treat up to 200,000 patients a year.
Tehran University of Medical Sciences says the Cancer Institute operates within the Imam Khomeini Hospital complex.

It describes the institute as a leading centre for cancer research, diagnosis and treatment in Iran.
The Union for International Cancer Control lists the Cancer Institute at Imam Khomeini Medical Centre among its members. It says the institute runs Iran’s first hospital-based cancer registry.
