Indian Army’s Unprovoked Firing at LoC Leads to Civilian Death

The Indian Army engaged in unprovoked firing at the Line of Control (LoC) in the Nikial Sector, leading to the death of a 60-year-old civilian named Ghias from Oli village, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The incident also left three women traumatized.

Riaz Mughal, the regional superintendent of police, confirmed the incident, adding that Ghias was hit while cutting grass near the LoC. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) condemned the firing, emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to peace but readiness to defend its citizens.

This marks the second major ceasefire violation since the renewal of the truce between India and Pakistan in February 2021. The previous breach, in June, resulted in two civilian deaths at the LoC. Following these incidents, India’s Charge d’Affaires were summoned by Pakistan to express their objections. Despite these challenges, the ceasefire remains intact, with both nations resolving minor incidents through established mechanisms.
