The Independence Day celebration at the Governor House in Sindh descended into chaos, overshadowing the festivities with incidents of serious disorder and distress, particularly affecting women and families present.
The event, held publicly at the Governor House in Karachi, was meant to be a joyous celebration featuring a musical concert, among other activities. Unfortunately, the situation escalated when a large segment of the crowd, in their enthusiasm, attempted to climb onto the stage by breaching barriers and navigating through barbed wires. Some individuals managed to reach the stage, causing panic and prompting the event organizers to resort to baton charges to control the situation.
The use of baton charges, however, led to a stampede, which injured several attendees. The chaos didn’t stop at the stage area; there were reports of people attempting to climb walls and rooftops to get a better view or avoid the turmoil, further adding to the confusion.
During these frantic moments, many women and children were separated from their families, adding to the distress amid the overcrowded conditions both inside and outside the Governor’s House.
This unfortunate turn of events marred what was intended to be a celebratory and uniting occasion, highlighting significant security and organizational lapses at such public gatherings.
