CHICAGO: DiJonai Carrington said her “white privilege” post did not refer to her ejection during the Indiana Fever’s 90-86 win over the Chicago Sky on August 8.
Officials upgraded Carrington’s foul on Sophie Cunningham to Flagrant 2 during the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) game. The play came with 1:59 left in the opening quarter at the United Centre. The ruling required an automatic ejection, Reuters reported.
Carrington posted “WHITE PRIVILEGE @indianafever” on Threads shortly after leaving the court. In a Monday response to Emmanuel Acho, she said he had assumed the phrase referred to the foul assessment.
Carrington later said the contact was unintentional. She called for consistent officiating regardless of a player’s identity or game context, People reported.
Cunningham rejected a racial link and noted that officials ejected her for a similar foul last season. Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White supported the ruling but said she did not believe Carrington intended the contact.

The WNBA had announced on its official site as of August 11 that no discipline would be issued for the post.
Carrington played Monday and scored a career-high 26 points against the Seattle Storm. Chicago lost 97-88.
