PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar announced that the party’s founder, Imran Khan, has agreed to initiate talks with the government.
Speaking to journalists outside Adiala Jail, Gohar confirmed Khan’s readiness to engage in dialogue to bridge growing divides.
Gohar shared that Khan is prepared to overlook past grievances for reconciliation.
“The PTI founder has often expressed his willingness to forgive past incidents,” Gohar remarked.
In response to whether the Supreme Court influenced this decision, Gohar noted, “We are considering the court’s suggestion, but the decision to negotiate is our own.”
He clarified that PTI sent no formal request for negotiation to the Supreme Court.
Gohar further stated that discussions would start after consultations with Mahmood Khan Achakzai, leader of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, and other allies.
“Negotiations could extend to the alliance level, but PTI is prepared to initiate independently,” he added, emphasizing negotiation as the only viable option.
Gohar stressed that PTI’s move towards dialogue should not be seen as a compromise but a strategic step to improve the current political climate.
This shift follows Khan’s directive for party leaders to engage with political entities within and outside Parliament to alleviate tensions.
Moreover, Gohar mentioned Khan’s recent interaction with his lawyers, during which he discussed not being permitted to speak with his sons.
The change in stance occurred after Khan met with Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa at a Supreme Court hearing on National Accountability Bureau law amendments. Isa had advised Khan to participate in parliamentary processes to address national issues.
According to party insiders, Khan has authorized a three-member committee within his party to liaise with key figures.
