The Higher Education Commission has made GRE or HAT tests mandatory for HEC MS MPhil admissions, ending separate university entry tests for Level 7 and Level 8 programmes.
According to an HEC notification, applicants seeking admission to MS and MPhil programmes must pass the GRE/HAT General or Subject tests under the new policy.
HEC said the revised system aims to promote standardisation, quality, transparency, uniformity and merit in higher education admissions across Pakistan.
The policy bars universities from conducting separate entry tests for admissions to the affected postgraduate programmes.
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council also issued fresh guidelines for students seeking admission to medical institutions.

PMDC said applicants must secure at least 50% marks in the Medical and Dental College Admission Test, or pass an equivalent foreign examination, to qualify for admission.
The council also requires students to pass FSc Pre-Medical, or an equivalent qualification, with at least 60% marks.
In a public notice, PMDC directed students applying to foreign medical institutions to follow the criteria and complete online registration for provisional registration and the National Registration Examination.
