GTA 6 disc copies will not ship at launch, with Rockstar Games using boxed editions that contain a digital download code for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Rockstar has set the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI for Thursday, November 19, 2026. The company said pre-loads will begin on November 12, according to Video Games Chronicle.
The Standard Edition will cost $80, while the Ultimate Edition will cost $100, according to VGC.
The retail box will not include a physical game disc. Buyers will need to redeem the code through the PlayStation or Xbox store before downloading the full game.
Rockstar Support’s email caused confusion by referring to a “physical copy” months after launch.
The Hollywood Reporter later learned of the plan, saying Rockstar had no current plan to print GTA VI discs at launch or afterwards.
The move drew criticism from collectors and players who prefer physical ownership. Some users also objected to a retail box that does not include a playable disc.

Rockstar’s digital-first strategy could reduce early leaks, resales and rentals. It also gives the publisher tighter control over pricing and distribution.
Grand Theft Auto VI is currently confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not announced a PC release date.
