Mohammad “Baggy” Khan, 25, a newly elected Green Party councillor for the Halliwell ward in Bolton, Greater Manchester, drew criticism after posting a TikTok video of himself driving a Lamborghini Huracán Spyder following his May 7, 2026, election win.
The footage, interspersed with clips of Khan celebrating his victory, appears to date from a 2023 wedding where a fleet of supercars ferried guests.
Khan also regularly drives a Mercedes with personalised plates, which he used during his campaign.
Khan defended himself on social media, asking, “Who said councillors can’t drive cars like this?” and insisting his personal celebrations do not conflict with his pledge to fight for greener spaces and community interests.
The backlash stems from the Green Party’s transport policies, which include reducing motorway and dual carriageway speed limits to 55mph, expanding 20mph zones, incrementally raising fuel taxes, and steadily reducing parking spaces to cut motorised traffic.
Critics, including local Conservatives, branded the post “hypocrisy” and an “absolute joke,” arguing it undermines public trust and the party’s environmental agenda.
The story went viral quickly on May 11–12, 2026, mostly on the political right and among critics of Green policies, with heavy focus on the hypocrisy angle versus the party’s anti-car agenda.
Many posts mix the wedding supercar footage with his election win and council arrival clips.
