Islamabad: Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar said on Friday that the government did not want anyone to apologise over the judicial commission’s report which rejected allegations by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that the 2013 general elections were rigged.
Last year, PTI Chairman Imran Khan had led countrywide demonstrations and a large sit-in protest in front of the parliament for several months to try to force Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from power. The PTI claimed that it had been robbed of victory in the ballot by a shadowy conspiracy involving poll officials and the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N).
Speaking to journalists here today, Dar invited the PTI to work together with the ruling party for the betterment of Pakistan. “They (the PTI) are part of the parliamentary committee on electoral reforms and they should play their role in the committee. All challenges faced by Pakistan including economy, energy, or extremism, we should unite and solve them together,” he said.
“I believe the prime minister’s speech yesterday was a clear invitation (for political parties) to come together and face their challenges together for Pakistan,” he added. He said that we should work together to take the country forward on the path of progress and prosperity. Dar said that we are ready to even amend the constitution for electoral reforms if needed.
