Kabul: Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani has described terrorism as common threat for both Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Addressing a video conference from his hospital bed in Germany to the journalists, he said that Pakistan as a neighboring country has responsibility to cooperate with Afghanistan in fighting Taliban and other terrorist groups to reduce violence in Afghanistan.

The Afghan president said that said that confirmation of the death of Mullah Omar by the Afghanistan government had forced the Taliban to confirm his death. Describing the development as an opportunity, the president noted that the development marks end of a bitter phase of history and moving towards a bright future.

To a question, Ghani said that he had talked to Prime Minister Nawaz Shairf and Chief of Army Staff Raheel Sharif and exchanged views on the development, situation in Afghanistan and the region. He also said that the development had raised the ray of hope for ensuring peace and stability in the country, calling upon armed opposition groups to solve their political problems through negotiations.

“Our main objective is peace, peace between the government of Afghanistan and Pakistan, because Afghanistan is faced an undeclared war with Pakistan over the past 14 years and this war should over and both the governments should cooperate in this regard,” President Ghani stated.

He also said that regional and international terrorism as common threat for Afghanistan and Pakistan had been recognized at the summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS held in Ufa city of Russia and stressed for joint war against the menace.
