Gilgit, Gilgit-Baltistan: Final GB election results will be notified within 14 days under the law. Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz Khan said this as the commission consolidated returns.
The Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission said the election phase had ended peacefully and finalisation of results was underway. Raja Shahbaz Khan cited Section 98 of the Election Act while giving the legal timeline.
The commission said nine election petitions were being heard. It said three petitions had already been heard, while the remaining petitions were scheduled for hearing on Friday.
Form 49 for final official results has been issued in GBA-6 Hunza, GBA-11 Kharmang, GBA-23 Ghanche-II and GBA-23 Ghanche-III, the commission said. Meanwhile, re-polling orders were issued in five other constituencies.
The commission also ordered a recount in GBA-09 Skardu-III after an inquiry into allegations of polling irregularities, illegal practices and corruption. The recount will take place after notices to all contesting candidates and authorised agents.

The Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz have not reached an agreement on government formation after talks in Gilgit. According to unofficial Form 47 results from the June 7 polls, PPP gained 11 out of 24 seats in the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly.
PML-N won six seats, PTI-backed candidates won two, Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen won one and independent candidates secured four in unofficial Form 47 results.
Supporters of PPP candidate Attaullah from GBA-16 Diamer-II continued a protest outside the district returning officer’s office in Chilas. Protesters blocked the Karakoram Highway and demanded that postal ballot counting and final results be conducted without delay.
