VIENNA, Austria: Mikhail Ulyanov questioned whether US embassy warnings across the Middle East indicated that another regional escalation was approaching.

Ulyanov serves as Russia’s permanent representative to international organisations in Vienna. He raised the question in an X post on August 1.

“Does that mean that another [phase] of escalation is coming?” Ulyanov asked, referring to media reports about the warnings. His original post appeared to contain a typographical error.

The remarks followed coordinated alerts from US diplomatic missions across the Middle East. The missions cited heightened tensions and the possibility of “unforeseen escalation.”

According to some mass media reports, US Embassies in Middle East countries recommend Americans to leave the region. If true, does that mean that another ease of escalation is coming?

The warnings covered Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, according to CNA.

US officials advised Americans to consider leaving the region. Alternatively, they should prepare to depart if tensions increase.

The alerts also warned of flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures and other travel disruptions. In Jordan, the US Embassy in Amman advised Americans to avoid military bases.

Meanwhile, the Jerusalem mission told residents to identify their nearest bomb shelter. However, neither the alerts nor Ulyanov’s remarks confirmed any planned military operation.
