Former Australian cricketer Michael Slater is currently in police custody, facing over a dozen charges, including assault and stalking. An international media outlet reported that Slater’s case was addressed in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court.
Slater, aged 54 and now a commentator, faces 19 charges related to incidents that allegedly occurred on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast between December 5, 2023, and April 12, 2024. He also faces ten additional charges for violating bail conditions and disobeying a domestic violence order.
The hearing details in Maroochydore Magistrates Court emerged on Monday, though the victim’s identity remains undisclosed.
Local police confirmed the arrest of Slater in Noosa Heads last Friday following allegations of domestic violence.
Slater remains in custody, with further proceedings scheduled for Tuesday in the same court.
Previously, Slater was arrested in October 2021 for stalking and domestic violence involving his ex-wife. A 2022 charge of domestic violence was dismissed on mental health grounds by a Sydney local court.
Once a prominent cricket commentator, Slater was released from his duties by Australia’s Channel Seven in 2021. Last year, he was arrested again after assaulting a police officer during an argument, which resulted in an injury to the officer.
Michael Slater’s cricket career lasted from 1993 to 2003. He played 74 Tests and 42 ODIs during this time, scoring over 6,000 international runs.
