Floods continue to wreak widespread devastation

Floods and heavy rains have caused widespread destruction across the country, leaving over 180 people dead in Punjab and Azad Kashmir.

The floods have devastated in Hafizabad, Sialkot and Gujranwala districts of Punjab, inundating hundreds of thousands of acres of agriculture land and leaving several areas cut off from the rest of the country.

Nearly 200 villages in Hafizabad and over 80 villages in Chinot have been inundated as floodwater entered Jhang city of Punjab.

Waters were also receding in many areas of Lahore and other districts.

But “a red alert” has been issued in four districts — Jhelum, Sialkot, Nankana Sahib and Narowal — where the situation was still precarious.

Heavy rains have damaged thousands of houses in Punjab and Azad Kashmir as authorities have put four districts on red alert for floods.

In worst-hit Punjab province, the death toll from rains and flooding over the past three days hit 182 while over 300 people are injured.
